This
house in Holland Park in London had a very small dark area off
its ground floor kitchen. Measuring only 2 x 3 metres,
it was a medley of downpipes and man hole covers and
was pretty unprepossessing.
The new owners wanted to create a useable space which
was both visually appealing and could be used for breakfast
and for a quick family supper or drinks without undertaking
an enormous amount of work and spending too much money.

They also
wanted to able to use the ground floor area as a breakfast
courtyard. This space was only about 2.5 metres x 3 metres
but levelling the ground, putting in three clear stemmed
olive trees, some mirrored alcoves and plinth benching
and good lighting, we were able to create a really good
lilttle courtyard with enough space for a table and chairs.
The owners can now have friends over for drinks in the
evening and can breakfast outside their kitchen.
