Charlotte Rowe Garden Design
was invited to design one of the show gardens at the
Urban Gardens Exhibition at Olympia in May 2005.
Garden theme:
A long leisurely lunch with friends has come to an end
and the guests have finally departed. Time now to dream,
doze and read the Sunday papers in the late afternoon
sun.
This couple’s garden is an urban retreat for private
enjoyment, away from the stress of inner city living.
It is neat and compact and reflects the elegant style
of its owners without taxing their gardening skills
too much.
The completed garden
Two comfortable
day beds, made of timber and strewn with comfortable
cushions, separated by dark natural stone paving and
a planted rill of thyme lead up to the decked dining
area.

Planting
is a soft, fragrant combination of silvery grey, green
and deep red purple including Acer, Cupressus sempervirens,
Euphorbia, Cornus and Amelenchior lamarkii. The garden
is separated from the dining area by timber and opaque
film screening. A beautiful David Harber globe sundial
is their only reminder of the time.
