Water and light in garden designs by Charlotte Rowe

Water and light in the garden, particularly in towns, can really add to the look of the garden, particularly when you consider that through most of the year, the garden, roof terrace or courtyard is seen through the window from the warmth of the house. Coming home and switching on the garden lights and the fountain can really complete the look and add another room to the house.

We always recommend to clients that they consider lighting of some sort in the garden, even if it is night lights and lanterns or a few carefully placed halogen spots uplighting favourite trees and shrubs. However, when lighting is considered to be particularly important to the overall effect of the garden, a lighting plan is prepared.

Water features can also add a further dimension but they need to be designed, specified and built with extreme care to ensure that they work well, add value and do not constantly cause maintenance problems.
