This was the owner’s (a young London wiz kid) first garden and she wanted a fun, colourful garden in which to enjoy reading the newspaper in the sun and having friends to supper.

Not a gardening expert, she did not want too much maintenance hassle and did not have the time to sort out what to put where. However, she did not want it too minimalist and was keen on a combination of lush and fragrant planting which would mature beautifully creating a little haven from the stresses and strains of the financial world.

Combining sandstone paving, black stone coping and benches and dark charcoal pebbles to set off the lime-washed raised beds and hand made Moroccan terracotta pots, this is a warm, friendly and colourful garden.

The mainly evergreen planting will mature to create a lush canopy on one side of the shady side of the garden. In the sunny South facing border of the garden, young olive trees, rosemary and herbs give her the fragrance she sought.
